If you're familiar with Minekura's work, you will know that this book is filled with beautiful piccies that make you gasp. Her artworks should speak for itself, and is a definitely on the shopping list of a true fan.

As the 1st book in a series of 4 this is a must to own, especially for any Minekura/Saiyuki fans.
But... and there is a but on this one.
This book soley contains Saiyuki images.
As with all other Minekura artbooks, there is normally some other of her manga images within, which I personally appreciate. but non in this.
It does have really nice images in here from 'Saiyuki Gaiden' which other artbooks have been lacking and some Homoru images by Minekura herself, but most images are from 'Gensomaiden Saiyuki' (The 1st series of manga), Where as the other books of the 'Salty Dog' series contain Reload images and more misc images that are well worth it.
As a devoted Minekura fan myself, I would say get this. If your a Saiyuki Fan, it's a must. As part of the 4 set, it's also a must... if you’re a bit more casual and after a good artbook, I say get the others first, be that from the Backgammon or Salty Dog series.
NOTE: I've also reviewed this artbook at bane-huntress.co.uk
Gorgeous book

The first Salty Dog is such a fine piece, it's truly one of my favorite artbooks from Minekura. It has beautiful pictures of almost everyone from the Saiyuki manga, be it the good guys (can we truly call them good?) or the bad guys (again can we call them bad?). The bonus are the pictures from the Saiyuki Gaiden and Reload. Truly the book to own.
