LOVELESS #1
Jul. 10/2008
I glance over this one after reading Earthian and while I rather see more of those lovely Angels, Ritsuka and Soubi are _very_ pretty together, but I also find it a bit to shota for my taste.
Though the idea of children with catears 'n tail is a interesting idea I still thinking its a bit trying. None the less Kouga Yun's artwork is very beautiful and if you read Earthian you can see the difference in styles and how she draws now since then. ^__^
yay for loveless! yay for soubi!

So nice.. I love soubi very much! He is so cool and faithful! They story was confusing at first, but after watch and follow it up some chapters carefully!

I thought the Loveless tv anime was ridiculously melodramatic, but I gave the manga a chance and I was utterly charmed. The art is always attractive/expressive and Ritsuka is a very compelling protagonist, innocent in some ways and sadly world-weary in others, mature and vulnerable at once, and not whiny or overly feminised. He was quite a refreshing change from typical BL stock characterisation.
Loveless doesn't rely on gimmicks, either. I expected to roll my eyes constantly over the cat ears, but actually Loveless handles that peculiar aspect of its universe in such a straightforward, natural way that you're immediately immersed and never really dwell upon it; they serve a symbolic purpose, but never really come across as fetishised.
All in all this series has class I wouldn't expect from the basic concept ("kitty-eared shotabait and bondage!"), but which I should have expected from such a talented veteran storyteller as Kouga Yun.
surprising !

I usually hate half beast characters in manga so I was reticent to read this story. And at first, I actually didn't like it because I found the line quite ununderstanding and long to start. But now... I'm totally in love with the characters wich have deep personnality and dark past. It's a tortured and deep story line with a perfect mixed of tenderness, darkness, sadness and sweet emotions...
Amazing...wow, it's truly by Kouga Yun?!

The best of her works. This is a softly done fantasy with deep romantic elements, eccentric characters and great expression of human emotion. The yaoi aspect is subtle and (so far) clean, and really adds a punch to the story. The battle scenes are a tad confusing, so reread those a few times to really get a feel for it. Please read it; you shall not forget this lovely story.
(Hey, how do the virgin characters have two sets of ears?)
Good Start

A good start to the story. A bit confusing in parts, but it all gets sorted out eventually. ^.^ Beautiful artwork, and shounen-ai with deper subjects-- it's definitely not just eyecandy, though that aspect doesn't hurt the story. XD
Buy it even if you watchced anime.

Probably many of you have already watched Loveless anime and are wondering wether to buy manga or not. I say - buy! Although the beginning of the story is very similar to it's animated adaptation, the ending is totally different. Even more so! The manga hasn't actually ended yet and the way how the story develops now has nothing to do with a plainly naive and totally dull idea that a "kill'em all" dream presented in tv series was.
Plus, it's more of Loveless!:)
Surprisingly good.

Didn't like it at first, but grew to love it. There are plot twists in here that will send your mind reeling and betrayals that will break your heart... but all in all? A great read.
Great book

Something out of the ordinary

As Lucca writes Kouga Yun really shows her quality as a mangaka, shifting fast between happy and sad in a very original world. I have to say, though I'm not all that in to shonen-ai, that I have grown really fond of this manga. Art is beautifully composed and really something out of the ordinary. I can without any hesitation recommend this manga no matter if you're a guy or a girl because this plot have something that many other manga don't.
More than meets the eye.

Kouga Yun shows her quirky personality with the premise of this manga. A world where, at birth, everyone has cat-ears that they later loose with their virginity. Despite this funny add-on, the plot is actually quite serious and psychological, and has very little to do with the cat-ears. It's not just pretty fangirl-service.
